2012 Hong Kong BTEC Outstanding Student Awards

Sixteen high-achieving local students were awarded at the first ever BTEC Outstanding Student Awards Presentation Ceremony on 23 May, 2012. The ceremony was held at the British Consulate-General in Hong Kong, and attended by Andrew Seaton, British Consul-General to Hong Kong and Macao, as a guest speaker and award presenter.

Awards were given to students who had been nominated by their study centres after performing exceptionally well during the course of their BTEC studies. Subjects taken included teaching in the lifelong sector, performing arts, multimedia and media production, travel and tourism, art and design, engineering, business and management, hospitality, and fashion and textiles.

Dugie Cameron, President, Pearson Asia Pacific also attended the ceremony and said that the achievements of the outstanding award winners were not only impressive, but inspiring. Quoting Socrates, he went on to say: ‘Education is the kindling of a flame, not the filling of a vessel.’

During an interval in the awards presentation, graduates from EXCEL, Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts performed a song from the hit musical Wicked, and another from Michael Jackson for the guests. Fashion showpieces designed by students from Caritas Bianchi College of Careers were also exhibited at the ceremony.

Over 10,000 students in Hong Kong register for Edexcel courses every year, and there are 103 Edexcel centres in the city.
